A Testimonial: Troubleshooting Google Ads and a BNI Connection

Loebig Ink Testimonial: Troublshooting Google Ads and a BNI ConnectionWe recently received an unexpected testimonial addressed to the leadership team of Loebig Ink’s professional networking group, Business Networking International (BNI). Kevin Hu of Spa65 Thai Massage & Bodywork sent this heartfelt email expressing his gratitude for the support provided by Brian and the Loebig Ink team in resolving major online issues that were affecting the visibility and bottom line of his new start-up, a high-end Thai massage business based in Potomac, Maryland.

Hi Daniel and Ann [BNI chapter president and vice president],

I would like to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude toward Brian Loebig. I was inducted to BNI yesterday because of him. My Google Ads account suspension issue was fixed yesterday because of him!

For a new business of only 3 months old, having our Google Ads account suspended by Google was devastating because everyone uses Google to search for services. After the suspension, I had a lot of doubts and fears that my business could even survive because there was noticeable foot traffic dropped. After several weeks of frustration interacting with Google Ads support, my realtor introduced me to Brian. I know he is busy. I know he has his life and business. However, he set aside a time very late that same night and troubleshot the issue with me on Zoom. I felt I had hope because someone cared. I felt I had hope because he had many resources, experience and connections. I felt I had hope because I was not alone in this.

After many days of troubleshooting, we made many changes and updates to my website.  However, my account was still suspended. He then introduced me to BNI. I realized that I cannot put all my eggs in one basket. I had to get out of my comfort zone and tried different marketing strategies. I truly enjoyed the one to one meetings with BNI members. Our BNI core values really resonated with me – building Meaningful Relationships: Build strong relationships with others.

For three months, pretty much since the beginning, my business runs without Google Ads advertisement. The business is actually running pretty well and I saw revenue growth each month. More and more people from around the DMV area notice our business.

Three weeks ago, while troubleshooting my website performance issue, I found out that my website was hosted in Thailand! I contacted my Thai web designer to move the content to the US based servers but didn’t hear back for many weeks. Once again, I reached out to Brian for help.  He did his magic and voilà, my website’s slowness issue was fixed! At that instant, I appealed my Google account suspension to Google Ads support and voilà, my Google Ads account was restored! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the news. My wife and I hugged each other and cried for 5 minutes. These three months of struggling and hard working with Google Ads were finally over all thanks to Brian’s support and members from BNI.

As a new BNI member, I want to share this testimony with you the leadership team and hopefully you can share my story to other members and visitors.

Thank you.

Kevin Hu

Podcast Review: SEO 101

SEO 101 podcast reviewThe SEO 101 podcast on WebmasterRadio.FM begins with a school bell. Class is in session, and the intro promises to instruct listeners who are starting from the fundamentals of search engine optimization. The podcast first appeared in 2009, and at 335 episodes and counting, SEO 101 is among the best known and most respected sources of information in the industry. Hosts Ross Dunn, CEO of StepForth Web Marketing Inc and John Carcutt, Vice President of Strategy for Reflexive Media, offer helpful insights without overwhelming those newer to SEO with technical details.

Good-natured discussion is the mood of the show. Dunn and Carcutt talk about all things SEO from the latest articles in trade magazines to search-related news items to questions they’ve received. In a recent episode, the co-hosts explained the “personalization” of Google – that the keywords you use in your current search along with your past internet behavior affects how Google will rank what it shows you. Other topics have included a synopsis of the Content Marketing World conference, the new version of Google Search Console, and speculation on how much Google judges page content written by others on your website such as reviews and visitor comments. Another conversation highlighted the importance of retaining an SEO team of experts, as some companies have, at their peril, begun to leave the SEO tasks to employees with only nominal training. At times, these SEO experts poke a bit of fun at those who may be less versed in the field, but always with a pleasant sense of humor and with the intent to welcome all listeners to expand their knowledge.

Unlike many podcasts, this one includes professionally produced, somewhat brash but informative advertisements for digital marketing companies, events, and blurbs for WebmasterRadio.FM itself. The commercial breaks are brief, after which SEO 101 is “back in session.” Explore the back catalog of shows for an array of topics, interviews, and guest hosts. Just a few of the titles from 2018 alone are “SEO Audits and SEO Hijacking (Ep 315),” “Facebook Makes Waves in Local and a Flurry of Google Search Console News (Ep 328),” and “Google My Business Q&A Feature with Mike Blumenthal (Ep 314).”

Ross Dunn founded StepForth Web Marketing Inc, in 1997. The company is based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He is a Certified Internet Marketing and Business Strategist (CIMBS) with a background in web and graphic design.

John Carcutt has been recognized as an SEO thought leader for over fifteen years. He is a regular speaker and teacher at the top national SEO and Social Media Marketing conferences and has published articles in iMedia, Search Engine Journal, and WebProNews.

SEO 101 is good listening whether you are a beginner at search engine optimization or you are a professional seeking to keep up with the latest. For more information and to listen to SEO 101, find it at WebmasterRadio.FM, on the StepForth website, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Podcast Review: Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing

iPhone with ear buds - Podcast Review - Unknown Secrets of Internet MarketingLearning about and implementing SEO is not a one and done operation. It is a great start to get a handle on basic SEO definitions and to optimize your website using best SEO practices, but as the emphases of search engines change, there is always something new to learn. SEO podcasts can help you stay aware of the latest developments.

One of our favorites is Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing by eWebResults. In the spirit of full disclosure, we admit that we here at Loebig Ink are superfans of these guys (and it’s not just because they read Brian Loebig’s letter and called him a genius on SEO Podcast #396!). That said, we are not alone in our fandom; it is the #1 SEO podcast on the internet. What is it that makes this weekly podcast from eWebResults so worth the listen? It is always chock full of content that can immediately be put to work in your professional or personal SEO efforts.

Current hosts Chris Burres, eWebResults Owner, and Matt Bertram, lead Digital Marketing Strategist, usually kick off the episode with a friendly “Howdy!” from their company headquarters in Houston, TX. They give us a brief takeaway from the main focus of the previous episode before moving on to industry news, reviews, and other smaller points of discussion. All the tidbits covered in this introductory section of the show are called the “potatoes” of the podcast.

On to the “meat” of the podcast: With 414 episodes and counting, you are guaranteed to find answers to questions you’ve had in mind, to learn about search engine algorithm shifts that affect best SEO practices, and to gain knowledge about aspects of SEO you didn’t even know you needed. Topics are often inspired and informed by articles found at Search Engine Journal and elsewhere around the web. Recent titles include “15 Link Building Tactics to Supercharge Your SEO Efforts NOW,” “4 SEO Tasks You Need To Be Doing Today, But Probably Aren’t,” “How Does Google Rank Your Website?” and “4 Steps to Crafting the Perfect SEO Title Tag.” The conversations are kept interesting as the hosts expound on points made in the feature article while not being afraid to at times disagree (with the author and sometimes each other). All of this is delivered with a sense of humor and an entertaining format that makes this podcast unique.

The fun factor of Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing is much better heard than explained. Catch them on Facebook Live on Friday afternoons or download from iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts. Hear the “Results Rebels” encourage you to share, like, and follow them (That’s “shikow” in their parlance). Find out why a “punch in the face” is much better than a “kick in the shins,” and if you explore old episodes, you can get down with the rhymes of former co-host Charles Lewis, aka The SEO Rapper. If you become a regular listener, you may find yourself singing along with their theme song, “Goldmine” by Circle the Cat.

We give Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing an emphatic FIVE STARS! Check it out to learn or refresh basics, to keep up to date with what’s new, and to be part of the ever-evolving world of SEO.
